SRPMIC Day

Salt River Fields at Talking Stick

Friday, February 21, 2025

Over a decade later, Salt River Fields remains one of the most popular facilities to attend a spring training game. Located within the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, it carries an inherently unique vibe. The Community is home to two distinct Native American tribes: the “Pima” – Onk Akimel O’odham (River People) and the “Maricopa” – Xalychidom Piipaash (Upriver People). While they have distinguishable cultures and languages, the two tribes share a great amount of the same values. Similarly, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies come from two different states, with different players, yet, they both have made Salt River Fields their spring training home.

Opening Day at Salt River Fields is also celebrated as “SRPMIC Day” in which Salt River Fields and both of the teams celebrate their partnership with the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.

Along the concourse Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community artists Raeann Brown, Alice Manuel, and August Wood will demonstrate traditional basketry and pottery and SRPMIC artist Gabriel Martinez will be demonstrating traditional leather work.
